Experience

Hi there! Here is a little info about my academic career and tutoring experience: In high school, I took all of the AP classes my school had to offer, lead multiple study groups, performed well on the SAT, volunteered at our local after school program to help students with and without disabilities on their homework, edited classmates papers and helped many of my friends whenever they needed assistance. At UC Davis, I worked extremely hard for my B.S. in Biological Sciences but also took a wide array of classes outside of the hard sciences including music, psychology, dance, and theater. Name it, I've most likely taken a class on it :) In addition to schoolwork, I participated in many extracurriculars including club softball, acapella groups, theater, and was the go-to girl for editing english papers, scientific research papers, resumes, cover letters, etc. I like to think that multi-tasking and balancing a large workload is my specialty. As far as why I want to be a tutor, well, I love helping people learn. It makes me extremely happy to see students excel and I know how exciting it is when you finally have an "Aha!" moment. Through high school and university, I've learned many study skills, organizational tactics and teaching techniques I believe will help any student succeed. I am very patient, understanding, and work well with both highly motivated students and those who can't seem to find the point in studying. It may seem like a lot of work now, but I believe that staying focused and applying oneself in the early years, only makes you more successful and driven later in life. Since college, I have done research in the marine sciences in both Queensland, Australia and up in Bodega Bay, CA, interned in the Pinniped Cognition and Sensory systems lab in Santa Cruz, started working at a Veterinary hospital, and volunteer at the Marine Mammal Center. I am currently trying to decide whether vet school or grad school is a better fit for me and in the interim, would love to tutor students anywhere from K-college.

Hobbies

I am a very highly motivated individual who loves a lot of things. If I don't know the answer to something, I will take the time to figure it out. I like working with both students who are very motivated themselves as well as those who are little more challenging to inspire. I have worked with students who are already excelling as well as those who have learning disablities. Either way, I can adjust my pace and style of tutoring to what the student needs. I believe my love for music and a wide variety of subjects (marine biology, psychology, art, theater, terrestrial ecology, english, math, etc) allow me to tutor most any subject, and I am completely willing to take the time to help any student succeed.
