Experience

I've always loved helping other people with their writing and reading, and I've been doing it professionally as a tutor for the past 5 years. As an English Literature graduate student at Sacramento State University, I worked at the University Writing Center, assisting undergraduates with reading and writing assignments. I learned a lot from my first tutoring job, and I worked with students with varying backgrounds and academic majors, including ESL learners and students from STEM fields. Later, while studying in the Comparative & World Literature graduate department at San Francisco State University, I worked at the Learning Assistance Center. At the LAC, I really cultivated a love for helping other university students with their writing projects and reading assignments. After an initial semester of tutoring drop-in students, I taught multiple weekly writing workshops to college freshmen in English composition courses. I also saw students one-on-one for weekly tutoring, usually those who needed extra help in lower-level composition courses. Seeing the same students every week gave me the privilege of witnessing their progress over the course of the semester, which I loved. After leaving my job at SFSU, I taught 10 reading classes per week to groups of 15-25 K-12 students and adults through the Institute of Reading Development. At IRD, I learned how to teach to every grade level and the standards to which each one is held. Now, I work part-time in admissions at an independent K-8 school on the westside of Santa Cruz. I would love to fill my free time with tutoring opportunities. If you are struggling with writing or reading, let's work through it together! I'm eager to help you become a better reader and writer.

Hobbies

My hobbies and interests include reading nonfiction, hiking, and photography. I enjoy learning new things in my free time. RIght now I am interested in creating art or jewelry from found objects, like sea glass and microplastic. Taking a pottery class and learning how to surf are also on my list! I love talking to people with different interests because I find that I learn new things from their experiences.
