Private tutor in Santa Cruz, CA

Education

B.S. in mathematical physics, Brown University, 2008-2012. Graduated magna cum laude with honors. Ph.D. student in physics, UC Santa Cruz, 2012-present.

Experience

I would like to tutor math or physics because I really enjoy the personal experience of teaching students in a one-on-one or small group setting. I like to foster a casual learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, and I work find parts of the subject matter that bring out their natural curiosity. I also find it really exciting to share the insights and ways of thinking about math and physics that I've found useful over the years. While I have not tutored before, I have been a teaching assistant for Introductory Physics courses for majors and non-majors at UCSC (PHYS 5A and 6A), where I received very positive reviews from my students. I ran weekly laboratory and discussion sections. I have also been a TA for the first and third parts of UCSC's Mathematical Methods in Physics courses (PHYS 116A and C), where I have run discussion sections, held office hours and graded home works as well as exams. I also was a sailing instructor for three summers in high school, which was a great teaching experience. I have taken a large number of courses (too many to list here) which qualify me to tutor math and physics students, ranging from calculus and introductory mechanics classes through graduate-level ones. I am highly knowledgable about a wide range of mathematical topics at a variety of levels and I have total confidence that I can learn about other areas when necessary to fit students' needs. High school was a long time ago, but I am fairly certain I received a 2120/2400 on the SAT, a 34 on the ACT and 5s on the BC Calculus, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Latin, AP English and AP Statistics exams. I received an 810 on the Physics GRE. ----- I am willing to bike to places in the Santa Cruz area. Please get in contact with me by email to discuss meeting times. I look forward to hearing from you!
