Education

I received my Bachelors Degree in Mathematics with honors in the major from UCSC. Later I entered the Ph.D. program in Theoretical Mathematics at UCSC but left after completing my Masters degree due to being hired into a full time faculty position at Cabrillo College. In between the two degrees I studied Music Theory and Piano in the Cabrillo College Music program and won a scholarship based on a performance competition.

Experience

I've been tutoring for over 20 years. I also train other math tutors in effective strategies for tutoring math, create software for communicating math over the internet, and have taught both high school and college math. I have a large number of students who have successfully completed math classes they found challenging. All of the AP calculus (AB and BC) and AP Statistics students I have worked with have gotten 5's on their exams. Also, doing math homework and prepping for math exams involve different strategies. I'll show you how they are different and help you be successful at both. My goal is to work with you so that you understand the material and are proficient enough to get the grade you want on math exams. I'll help you learn to use resources available to you and show you how math language can be diluted so that it makes sense. I'll also help you fill in holes in your understanding that make it difficult to understand what you are learning now. Further, I can show you how to analyze your own work so that those pesky errors that lower your test grades are minimized. I also work with students to help them make the most of math lectures. My focus is on helping you ask the questions you need to ask to be successful. It works for the students I tutor and it can work for you. Let's talk and see what makes Math challenging for you. Cheers, Ed
