| Experience: | Hi,
I am currently not available for tutoring. Please check back with me. Thank you. I have a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry, with Honors, and am currently working as an Environmental Chemist in a research lab at UC Santa Cruz. My 8 years of teaching experience includes teaching Chemistry as a Teaching Assistant (TA) at UC Santa Cruz, over two years as an instructor and tutor employed by UC Santa Cruz for College-level classes in Chemistry, Physics, and Math. Additionally, I worked with elementary school children for 5 years, teaching a second language. I have worked with over 600 students. My approach to teaching has more to do with thinking outside the box and finding a method and/or explanation that makes sense to the student rather than forcing a way of thought or structure onto the unique thinking style of each student. I work with a student’s strengths to determine the best possible way to teach and develop the knowledge and problem-solving skills that are necessary for success in any subject, especially Chemistry and Math. Over my 8 years or experience, I have worked with a wide range of students, from elementary to re-entry university students, and students with learning disabilities, including ADHD and Autism. Students that work with me have an increase in grades, higher test scores, complete homework assignments regularly and correctly, and have a better understanding of the material that prepares them for more advanced courses. I also work with students to improve study skills, critical thinking, problem solving, and develop skills to relate material to more concrete examples. I look forward to working with you! Ethel |

She tutored our son in Geometry and we were quite satisfied and hope to have our son continue working with her in the future. |

Ethel is great. She responds to all emails very quickly. I hired her to work with my daughter who is a UCSC student and needed help with Chem and Calc. My daughter said she was very helpful and liked her a lot. They met in a coffee shop not far from campus which was convenient. Her rates are also very reasonable which is quite helpful to me since I foot the bill. The only pitfall is that due to personal circumstances she has to discontinue tutoring, which leaves us needing to scramble a bit. However, that said- I would definitely hire her again, and actually hope her situation allows for the possibility in the future. Thank you Ethel! |

Ethel has been tutoring my daughter in algebra for about 4 months now. Before we found Ethel my daughter was struggling in algebra and getting C's at best. We just receive her report card the other day and she received a B. This wouldn't of happened without Ethel's help. |
