#### Experience

Hi,I am available for tutoring in the Santa Cruz area! Over 10 years teaching experience!

I have spent the last year teaching University level Chemistry at Penn State as a full time instructor. This included teaching over 400 students in a variety of courses, including introductory chemistry and practical laboratory courses.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry, with Honors. My 10 years of teaching experience includes teaching Chemistry at Penn State and UC Santa Cruz, over two years as an instructor and tutor employed by UC Santa Cruz for College-level classes in Chemistry, Physics, and Math. Additionally, I worked with elementary school children for 5 years, teaching a second language. I have worked with over 1000 students, including students with specific needs, and studying requirements.

My approach to teaching has more to do with thinking outside the box and finding a method and/or explanation that makes sense to the student rather than forcing a way of thought or structure onto the unique thinking style of each student. I work with a student’s strengths to determine the best possible way to teach and develop the knowledge and problem-solving skills that are necessary for success in any subject, especially Chemistry and Math. Over my 10 years of experience, I have worked with a wide range of students, from elementary to re-entry university students, and students with learning disabilities, including ADHD and Autism.

Students that work with me show an increase in grades, higher test scores, complete homework assignments regularly and correctly, and have a better understanding of the material that prepares them for more advanced courses. I also work with students to improve study skills, critical thinking, problem solving, and develop skills to relate material to more concrete examples.

I look forward to working with you!

Ethel
