Nate K.
Private tutor in Santa Cruz, CA
Education
I earned my masters degree in Statistics from San Jose State University in 2017. My program was focused on Data Analysis and Statistical computing, for which I worked on a capstone project in AI for Verizon. In 2007 I obtained a bachelor's degree in mathematics from UC Santa Cruz, with a focus on Number Theory and Analysis.
Experience
I have been tutoring students in a wide range of math, and math related, subjects since 2004. Currently, I am the Director of the Math Learning Center at Cabrillo College. I started working at the Math Learning Center at Cabrillo College in 2004, as a student tutor, and am now employed as the full time staff Instructional Assistant there. During my time tutoring I have worked in the Learning Skills department, tutoring students with learning disabilities; and, have also been employed as a teacher at Georgiana Bruce Kirby Preparatory School for the 2010-2011 school year. After leaving GBK I traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland, to live abroad for a year. While there I found myself tutoring students in upper division, undergraduate and graduate level, economics courses, and taking some of the first MOOC courses in computer science and robotics to pass the time. When I finally returned to the US, I briefly wrote textbook solutions for Chegg.com and taught working professionals how to create apps for the Android platform before returning to my current position at Cabrillo. I tutor all levels of mathematics, ranging from Pre-Algebra through Differential equations, as well as a few upper division math classes (Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Number Theory, and Cryptography). I have also tutored Physics 116A/B at UC Santa Cruz, and am skilled in troubleshooting computer code, though I am only strong with writing Java,Python, and R.

Hobbies
I enjoy learning new things, and spend a great deal of time learning about Artificial Intelligence. The majority of my studies are in Computer Vision, and Deep Learning. I like to play music, and tend to be involved in one or two bands at a time, ranging from folk covers to doom metal. Casual gaming has become my addiction: Starcraft 2 and Hearthstone have become fixed activities for me in my daily life.
